Kalami Beach

Kalami beach is a pebbly beach and the water is crystal clear and absolutely attractive to the holidaymakers It offers a wide range of water sports including water-skiing, sup, canoeing, pedalos and boat hire. There are also sun beds and parasoles available for hire.

Kalami Facilities

In Kalami Corfu you can find a range of facilities including traditional Greek tavernas all idyllically situated on the beach, few bars and pool bars for refreshments, snacks and drinks during the day and night, mini markets, gift shops and tourist offices. If you like exploring and walking, there are some beautiful coastal and scenic walks where you can visit nearby bays, the picturesque little harbour of Kouloura (approx. 15 min. walk), the next bay on the right of Kalami, which is one of the best highlights of the northeast coast of Corfu, then Kerasia (approx. 30 min. walk) and San Stephanos (approx. 1h 15 min. walk). On the other side of Kalami you can reach Yaliskari bay (approx. 15 min. walk), which is an isolated and unexploited beach with vivid green and crystal water and a little further Agni bay (approx. 25 min.walk) with three traditional taverns.

The Durrells

Kalami is well known as the place where the Nobel Prize nominated author, Lawrence Durrell, once lived in the White House, and wrote excellent novels as “Prospero’s Cell”. The White House is still preserved at the end of Kalami bay from the beginning of the 20th century.

The Picturesque Village

Kalami is a small picturesque village and the parking areas are limited. Some properties, such as villas and apartments, have the privilege of private parking. There are open parking areas for the public as entering the village, however the choice of accommodation, which provides parking for your car, especially the high season – the busy period of July and August – is definitely demanded. Do not forget that the car hire is a must for the visitors, who want to explore the beauties of Corfu, or visit some of the highlights and the most scenery spots of our mythical island.

Cars & Public Transport

On the top of the main road and over Kalami you can catch buses to Kassiopi onwards and in the other direction the buses pass through numerous resorts finally stopping at Corfu Town. If you are staying in Kalami and have a car, follow this small guide for routes to the most scenery spots that you can visit during your holiday. Ideal Setting in NE Coast

Kalami has the ideal setting in the northeast coast for people who enjoy walking and rambling. In May, June, or September, October, the weather is refreshing with a mild climate. It is an exceptional time for rambling and swimming. In contrary during the high season of July and August, the temperature shows high degrees and the visitors enjoy lazy holidays with sunbathing and swimming. If you are staying to a nearby resort to Kalami, like Agni, Kouloura, Nissaki, Kerasia etc, it is easy to reach Kalami on foot, as it is just a few minutes away.

Events & Festivals

On the 21st of May is the name day of Saints Constantine and Helen. The local church of Saints Constantine and Helen is located on the main road nearby the village Gimari (the top village over Kalami). The local people celebrate the name day of the Saints with a festival in the backyard of the church. There is plenty of food with “souvlakia” or grilled lamb and soft drinks, Greek retsina wine or beers. The people are dancing to traditional Corfiot and Greek songs played by a live band.

Events During Summer Season

During the summer season, the festival of pie is organized at the same place. The local women cook delicious pies for all of different tastes: pies with courgettes, potatoes, salted codfish etc. There are also grilled “souvlakia” for the meat lovers. Everybody enjoys the food and drinks, dancing with live music. The local businesses of Kalami organize the Varcarola festival in Kalami. An old Corfiot event, where the boats, decorated with lights, sail along Kalami bay as the choirs of the Municipality sing traditional Corfiot songs called “cantades”.
